Let me explain what I mean.

It starts with your dopamine reward center.

That’s desensitization.

And desensitization is the engine behind gooning.

Because once your receptors start going dormant, normal levels of pleasure stop registering. A conversation with a friend. A sunset. A good meal. The stuff that used to feel satisfying just… doesn’t anymore. Your brain now needs more. More novelty. More tabs. More intensity. More time.

So the sessions get longer. An hour becomes two. Two becomes four. Four becomes an entire night that disappears.

But here’s where it gets really interesting.

There’s a brain change called hypofrontality. It’s where your frontal cortex, the part of your brain that controls critical thinking, decision-making, and impulse control, literally starts losing function because of decreased blood flow.

And I’ve seen the same pattern in the men I work with too. They don’t struggle to “do the work.” They force it through sheer will. But somewhere inside they know they’re red-lining their engine to get the same output that used to come easily.

They’re winning the race. But they’re driving with the parking brake on.

Motivation dies. Hobbies become less interesting. The things you used to enjoy just feel… grey. Like someone turned the saturation down on your entire life. You might not even notice it happening because the change is so gradual. But one day you realize you can’t remember the last time you were genuinely excited about something that didn’t involve a screen.

Then there’s the sexual side. And truth is, this is the part that brings a lot of guys to my door.

At 21 years old, my equipment worked fine in front of a computer screen. But with a real human being? Nothing. My brain had been retraining my sexual response to want endless novelty and the kind of stimulation that only internet pixels can provide.

That’s PIED. Porn-induced erectile dysfunction. And it’s gone from roughly 2% in young men to around 28% in the last two decades. That’s not a coincidence.

The escalation spiral is what makes gooning particularly brutal. Regular porn use is already overstimulating. Gooning takes it further. Longer sessions. More extreme content. The deliberate delay of release, which actually creates a much more powerful dopamine release than regular use. Your brain learns to crave the trance state itself. The dopamine hit isn’t even about the finish anymore.

It’s about the loop.

Stress hits. Boredom hits. Loneliness hits. The Animal says “you know what’ll fix this.” And off you go. Three hours later you’re sitting there wondering what just happened. Feeling worse than before. Which creates more stress. Which starts the loop again.

That’s the escapism loop. And gooning is one of its deepest expressions.

Each new tab, each new clip, each new scene delivers a fresh dopamine spike. Your brain never habituates. It just keeps firing.

That intermittent reinforcement, mixed with the delayed release, creates a much more powerful dopamine release than regular use. Your neural pathways don’t just get reinforced. They get dug into trenches.

And because those sessions run for hours, The CEO has been offline for hours. The frontal cortex isn’t just momentarily suppressed. It’s getting conditioned to stay down. That’s why guys describe the “zombie state.” The fog the next day. The feeling of being mentally underwater for hours or days after a session.

It’s not some character flaw. It’s literally decreased blood flow to the part of your brain responsible for thinking clearly.

Your brain’s Dopamine Reward Center was burned out from overstimulation. Your Frontal Cortex was weakened. Your Limbic System was strengthened. That’s not a willpower problem. That’s a hardware problem.

There Is a Way Out (And You Don’t Need to Become a Monk)
